“Creating stories through movement, communicating through the language of dance and using choreography as a transportation and transmission device is my greatest passion.
As a creator I have the honor to bring light to and shapeshift the changes I would like to see in this world. I believe it is my responsibility as a choreographer to contemplate on life’s questions through the communication of movement.
Blending my history of education and experiences in choreography, performance, dance teaching, music, visual art, costume design, with the creative inspiration of collaborators such as filmmakers, musicians, writers, poets, actors, and stage designers are my favorite projects.
I think of collaborative projects with artists of all sorts of different backgrounds as another form of dance—one between creators.”
The essentials that describe my work:
– I’m greatly influenced by the juxtaposition between the unusual and expected, the familiar and unknown, and by contrasts and absurdity.
–Most of the time, my choreographic process begins with creating sound-music collages paired with the visuals in my mind.
– I am fascinated by the fusion of dance & voice; with disassembling original texts and assigning them to sound effects or music, I work to develop sound or sound-text designs.
–I love to create a new expression of the original art format.
–Drawn to creating images and scenes in which an audience will identify with the characters in familiar situations, within surreal stories that take an audience on a journey into the unknown is a trademark of my work.
–Working with different elements inspires me: My pieces often include physical objects and visuals.
–Finding the humor. A sense of humor flows naturally from my heart. I like to remind the audience to see the joke of existence. Humor offers a way to explore patterns, human behavior and the absurdities of our everyday life, in a new light.
–My aim is always to create quality work within a culture of kindness and empathy, encouraging the unique quality and potential within each person I work with.
